All About Me

Hello! My name is Amy Yang and I am a Kindergarten teacher at Petersburg Primary School. This is my fifth year at PPS. I am originally from New York but my family and I moved down south back in 2007. I currently live in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

I received a B.A. in History but I have studied and trained in Education since 2005, and have been certified in Education since 2010. Currently, I am studying for my Master of Education in Clemson's Online Graduate Program.

I have been an English Teacher in South Korea twice and my favorite schools have always been the primary schools. My love of teaching is what inspired me to work with the little ones and my love for them is what inspires me in life.

I have a wonderful nephew who is 4 years old and a 5 month-old niece who was born this past April on Easter Sunday! My favorite animals are dogs. My favorite drink is coffee. My favorite holiday is Christmas! I love to spend time with my family and friends. My hobbies are cooking (and eating!), listening to music, traveling, and reading. I hope to help your children develop a love of books as well!

Announcement from Chesterfield County School District

Dear Parent/Guardian:

For the dates of November 10-24, 2020, Chesterfield County School District will be asking parents to communicate their intentions for second semester of the 2020-21 school year. An electronic form will be available for completion online to express whether students would like to remain enrolled in virtual school or return to face-to-face instruction. Likewise, if students have been attending face-to-face and would like to switch to virtual instruction for second semester, the form will also allow you to indicate that selection.

Please take note that November 24th is the deadline for your decision.  The electronic form will be available online through the Chesterfield County School District website ( as well as being emailed to all parents that have an email associated with PowerSchool.  We will continue to communicate through all avenues possible to remind families of this opportunity.

If you do not reregister your child through this online form, he or she will remain in his or her current choice of instruction.

After November 24th, schools will then work to reallocate teaching staff and student assignments throughout the month of December. Parents opting for a change in placement (to or from virtual) may expect a response from their school before winter break. The second semester placement will begin January 4, 2021, following winter break.

We are committed to continually improving and providing the best possible learning experience for our students, whether virtually or face-to-face. Our most important objective is to support families in the challenging circumstances we now face.

Sight Words

Here are the sight words that we will be working on for this school year.
Please note that we will work on 2 words a week.
Sometimes I might not give out sight word work. Please check checking ClassDojo for announcements.

Field Trip

Dear parents/guardians
Kindergarten will be having a Virtual Pumpkin Patch field trip this year! Mcleod Farms in Mcbee will be giving our students a virtual tour of the pumpkin patch and also teaching them all about the life cycle of the pumpkins. The field trip will take place on October 22 or October 23; virtual meetings for the days might change. We are looking forward to a very different but still fun virtual field trip!

Important Announcement!

Hello parents/guardians

By now everyone should have a chromebook for their child with a charger and log-in information. Please spend this weekend getting used to the chrome book and practice logging in.

We are starting our virtual school next week on Tuesday. Next week will not focus on lessons but just getting used to being online and getting to know each other virtually.

At some point, we will also start to use Imagine Learning and Math; both are great virtual tools for learning.

If you’ve read the Virtual CCS Handbook (, you would have seen the program expectations for the students, parents, and teachers. To summarize, students and parents need to work virtually 3 hours a day, 15 hours a week.

Parents, we have to keep in contact 3 times a week; this can be done through Class Dojo, email, or a phone call. When I send you a message, I will need a response back to prove that you have received the message. You can just say “Got it” so I know it went through.

We are also required to have a virtual meeting two times a week. I will be using these virtual meetings to do small group work and/or teach a short lesson. One for literacy and one for math.

Since this is a bit of a challenge for some parents/guardians, I am going to create a schedule based on when you are available.

So that is 5 times a week we are in contact with each other. I will be documenting these contacts.

Please send me a message, whether through email, text message, or Class Dojo on whether you prefer a morning or afternoon virtual meeting.

If you have not joined us on ClassDojo yet, please do so. It is a great app to have; it’s free and a great messaging system. I also use it to share important information and events that are coming up. If you need another invite, please let me know.

You can also keep up with what’s going on through the weekly newsletter on this webpage.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any questions or concerns.

I hope everyone has a great 3-day weekend!

See you all next week!

Ms. Amy Yang
