All About Me
Hello! My name is Nancy O. Plyler. I am the Reading Recovery teacher and the Reading Interventionist here at Petersburg Primary School. I love teaching at Petersburg because I went to school here when I was a little girl! Petersburg is my home.
I graduated from Central High School. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (Early Childhood Education) from the University of South Carolina – Columbia and my Masters of Education from Francis Marion University. I achieved National Board of Teaching in 2001 and renewed in 2011. I served as the Chesterfield County School District Teacher of the Year for the 2006-2007 school year. I was Reading Recovery certified from Clemson University in 2018.
I want to help your child discover the magic of reading and begin to love books. I want my students to realize the readers and writers that they already are. I want to equip each and every child with the tools to help them and the confidence to use them! Reading opens a rainbow of possibilities.
My Training Year 2017-2018
The year 2017-2018 was my training year. For one whole year, I went to class each Tuesday after school to become trained to teach Reading Recovery. These are some memories of that first year! Oh what a year of hard work and sleepless nights but it was so, so worth it! These children worked so hard and made so many strides. They became readers and writers not only in my eyes, but they believed it themselves. At the end of the year, we wanted to do something special for them and gave them a grand Reading Recovery Celebration for our students and their families.
Chesterfield County School District brought back Reading Recovery to our district for the 2017-2018 school year. This was my training year. I was trained and earned my certification through the Clemson University Reading Recovery Training Center. I received my certificate in May 2018.
