Kindness Week

Staff and students enjoyed celebrating The Great Kindness Challenge February 12-16 with a spirit week focusing on Kindness. Themes included:
Monday-Hunting for Kindness (Wear Camouflage)
Tuesday-It's Not Tacky to be Kind (Dress "Tacky")
Wednesday-We Love being Kind (Wear Red or Pink)
Thursday-We're Crazy about Kindness (Crazy Hair and/or Crazy Socks)
Friday-Growing Up Kind (What We Want To Be When We Grow Up).
Students and staff were also recognized for acts of kindness. We wanted everyone to know that kindness matters at PPS!

Our new Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Anna Hancock. Mrs. Hancock teaches one of our four-year-old/CDEP classes. We are very proud to have Mrs. Hancock represent our school!

Child Development (4K) and Kindergarten Registration for 2018-2019

Child Development and Kindergarten Registration for 2018-2019 will be held at Petersburg Primary School Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Free screenings of your child's vision, weight and height will be provided. Please bring 1) your child, 2) his/her certified birth certificate, 3) his/her certificate of immunization, 4) his/her Social Security Card, and your proof of residency in Pageland. Those registering a child for our four-year-old program (Child Development/CDEP) must also bring a proof of income (W-2, tax return, or paystub), as this program is income-based, or your child's Medicaid card. In order to register for Child Development, your child must be 4 on or before Sept. 1. To register for kindergarten, he/she must be 5 on or before Sept. 1.

Santa Visits Petersburg!

Santa and his special helpers visited Petersburg December 6 so that children could have their picture made with him. Proceeds benefitted the school's Relay for Life campaign. The school thanks volunteers from Lynches River Electric Cooperative for helping make this happen for the children this year!

Samaritan's Feet

Nov. 14, "Samaritan's Feet" washed children's feet and provided them with new shoes with the help of volunteers from our local Wal-mart Distribution Center and Chesterfield County First Steps. Parents could sign up for their child to participate. 310 children were able to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

Motorcycle Group Collects and Donates Coats

The Rugged Cross Riders of Rock Hill, SC, collected and donated almost 300 coats to Petersburg Primary School. Riders came to the school Saturday, Nov. 4 to make the donation. Petersburg faculty and staff greatly appreciates such kindness and generosity toward our students.

March of Dimes Celebration

Petersburg Primary concluded the March of Dimes spirit week with a parade and balloon release Friday, Nov. 3. The school raised $2605.00 and was named the first place school in Chesterfield County School District for the highest total.

To celebrate our success in our March of Dimes fundraising and awareness campaign, Petersburg Primary held a spirit week Oct. 30-Nov.3. Tuesday (Halloween) was Book Character Day!

4K Students and Parents Take Advantage of Waterford UPSTART Program

Through a grant offered to schools in SC, our 4K parents were afforded the opportunity to have a laptop computer and Internet access (if needed) provided for them so that their children can benefit from home usage of the Waterford Early Learning online preschool reading curriculum. The students who are currently participating took a pre-assessment Oct. 28 while their parents were trained in the requirements of the program. We are looking forward to great gains in these students' preschool reading skills!
