Lynches River Teacher Appreciation Volunteers

Ten Lynches River employees volunteered to assist Petersburg administration with covering teachers' classes Thursday, May 10 while the teachers enjoyed a duty-free luncheon in their honor sponsored by the school. Spring Carnival

Students, their families, and the staff of Petersburg Primary enjoyed the third annual Spring Carnival April 26. Proceeds from the carnival benefit the school's Relay for Life campaign.

First Graders Present Musical

The combined first grade classes, under the direction of music teacher Ben Davis, presented this year's spring musical, "Adventure Away!" Tuesday evening, April 24. The students did a fantastic job with every aspect of the program---singing, dancing, and speaking!

Four-Year-Old Classes Participate in Little Folks Food Festival

As part of its annual celebration of the Week of the Young Child, Chesterfield County First Steps (CCFS) hosted the Little Folks Food Festival April 17 at Northeastern Technical College in Cheraw. The event featured healthy and wholesome food for young children. A highlight of the trip was a magic show provided by Fish the Magish! Our CDEP students and their teachers had a great time at the Food Festival. Thank you, First Steps and NETC!

Teachers Present at Conference

Ulanda James, Literacy Coach, and teachers Anna Hancock and Ashley Hancock presented a session at the South Carolina International Reading Association conference Feb. 23 in Hilton Head. Their session was entitled, 'Snapshots of Literacy: Early Childhood Practices Granting Students Access to the “Literacy Club.” These ladies did an outstanding job representing their school and themselves. Participants left with many practical ways to create a true literacy environment in their Pre-K and K classrooms!

African American Read-In

Petersburg Primary, under the leadership of Ulanda James, PPS Literacy Coach, hosted its first African American Read-In Wednesday, February 28. This event was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. Petersburg invited guests to come in and read in each classroom. Books selected featured African American authors and/or characters. The event was a great success, and plans are to make it an annual event.

Parents and students enjoyed a special night Friday, February 16, at the Sweetheart Dance. Proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life.
