Jessica Horton - School Counselor

Hi, everyone! My name is Jessica Horton, and I am the School Counselor here at Petersburg Primary. This is my second year in the role of school counselor. This will be my 7th year working in the education field. My goal as an educator is and has always been to focus on the growth of the whole child and help them to grow into the best people they can be.

I began my career in education as a first-grade teacher at McBee Elementary and taught first grade for two years. I, then transferred to Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School where I taught sixth grade for three years. After completing my counseling program, I transitioned to Cheraw High School where I completed my first year as a school counselor. Finally, I landed in the nest at Petersburg Primary! I am excited to be back with the "littles!"

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Coker University in Hartsville, SC, and a Master of Science in Education in School Counseling with a focus on Special Populations from Arkansas State University. While at Coker, I was inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education, and while attending Arkansas State University, I was inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
I am originally from Chesterfield but now reside in Jefferson with my husband, two young boys, and two dogs. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. We love watching baseball (go ATL Braves!), riding the golf cart, going to the lake, and spending time outdoors.
